The awareness session was held on 3rd March 2020 at Mount Carmel College, Vasanthnagar with around 1600 students of degree stream of girl students from Arts, Science and Commerce and turned out to be a stupendous success. The two hour program stretched to nearly three hours with complete involvement of students and faculty. The initial session on Digital Thinking by Sanjay Sahay had the students and faculty pondering over their digital responsible living and the effects on their personal, scholastic and social life.
The Dean of the college Ms Uma Venkataraman and the faculty coordinators Ms Meenakshi Dinesh and Ms Archana were extremely supportive on the understanding of the need for having a progressive Cyber Balance among the girl students and a special thought on some of the cyber crimes such as Cyber Bullying and Body Shaming which is becoming a major concern. The students were given a crisp session on the Best Practices to be followed on usage of gadgets by Shyamala Ramanand. This session on Social media and Gaming by Dr. Suchitra Nair dealt especially for the Cyber Safety aspects of girl children and women who are extremely vulnerable in many such areas. Rojo George took the students on the various aspects of Digital addiction and its perils on the society and also took them through the various ways one can de-addict themselves. Thereafter the students approached the resource persons with queries and solutions, was a validation to what we have set out to do.
